OMBA Group Ride and Board Meeting - March 30th

Lake Stanley Draper is one of the most popular and long-standing trail systems in Oklahoma. If you ride there, no doubt you've noticed the severe erosion and rutting in many of the trails, along with large accumulations of sand in low places and corners.

Thanks to the leadership of Paul and Kelli Dyer, this is being addressed. Paul and Kelli have hosted several workdays and logged countless hours of personal time flagging, rerouting, cutting and finishing new trails. New routes are intentionally designed in such a way as to shed water and not evolve into deep, rutted basins.

Come out this Sunday and test ride the new trails. Group ride starts at 1:00 and board meeting is at 2:00. We hope to see you there!

Kelly Farm Trails Expand, Plan to Host NICA Team

Workers have been busy improving the trails at Kelly Farm in Yukon, bringing the total trail length up to 5 miles. Additional expansion plans are in the works along with construction of berms and small jumps.

Their crew is excited to host one of the first Oklahoma NICA teams. NICA, the National Interscholastic Cycling Association has robust programs in several states, and this is the first year for the OK NICA League.

NICA uses mountain biking as a tool to develop a community of athletes with strong minds, bodies, and character. The programs fill a niche for students whose needs may not be met by traditional interscholastic sports. Its a great way to get kids and families outside, and NICA welcomes any athlete in grades 6-12 to participate. They support diversity in ability, ethnicity, gender, orientation, and skill level.

There are two coaches already committed to the Yukon team but additional help is always welcome. For more information, please visit OK NICA or reach out to Jon Henson at vihomiv@gmail.com.

Expansion Continues at Trosper Trails

Progress continues at the newest trail system in Oklahoma: Trosper Trails. This project will revive an abandoned BMX course and add approximately 5 miles of single track to the urban landscape of OKC.

Shawn Coleman is leading the construction in this heavily wooded terrain. Along with several volunteers they have finished approximately one mile in the area south of Grand Boulevard.

So far the group has avoided removing any large trees; the greatest challenge is dealing with very dense brier vines. Thus far the trail drains well and dries quickly after rain events. Be on the lookout for upcoming workdays - the more help we have the sooner we can ride.

Arcadia: Dual Slalom and Outer Space

Arcadia Trails: Have you visted Outer Space?
Arcadia Trails: Have you visted Outer Space?

If you haven't ridden at Lake Arcadia recently, you're in for a treat.

The additions to the Postville trails are open and feature fun new elements along with some techy flow. You can test your skill on at least four separate variations going downhill from the water tower. Features include new jumps in the Super Bowl, a dual slalom course, many large berms and a 30 foot rock garden.

You can also explore the newest area south of the dam, collectively called Outer Space. Countless volunteer hours went into building what will ultimately be four miles of scenic roaming in Outer Space. There are shoreline views, quick climbs and many rocky features. In summary: challenging and fun!
